The short version
You can read this entire site without giving us anything. There is no account, no sign-up, no newsletter, and no search box that sends what you typed to a server. Every page is a plain file that your browser downloads and displays.
What we collect directly
Nothing. We set no cookies of our own, run no analytics, and have no server-side code that could record what you looked at. We don't build profiles, and we have nothing to sell to anyone because we hold nothing about you.
The one exception is deliberate: if you email us, we have your email. We use it to answer you and to keep a record of the correction, and for nothing else. We don't add you to a mailing list, because there isn't one.
What our host can see
The site is served by a hosting provider, which — like every web server — processes standard request information such as your IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser's user-agent string. This is how the web works rather than a choice we've made, and it is used to deliver pages and keep the service running. We don't use that data to identify anyone.
Advertising
The site does not currently show advertising, so no advertising cookies are set. We intend to fund it through advertising, and when that begins this page will say so before the first advertisement appears — including what the advertising provider may set in your browser. We would rather update this page early than describe the site inaccurately for a single day.
Children
This site is written for adults making decisions about adult relatives. It isn't directed at children and we don't knowingly collect anything from them.
Information about facilities, not about you
Worth separating clearly: this site publishes information about care facilities — inspection findings, staffing, and the owners, officers and other parties those facilities are legally required to disclose to Medicare. That information is published by the federal government as public record, and we reproduce it as published. It is not information about visitors to this site. If you believe something we publish about a facility or a disclosed party is inaccurate, tell us — we check every report.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the review date above changes with it. We won't quietly broaden what we collect.
